1st paragraph for HOOT

In Hoot, Carl Hiaasen uses eco-sabotage to highlight environmental issues that are affecting our world. The kids in the Coconut Cove community try to save owls that are buried under the ground because the owners of Mother Paula’s Pancake House want to build on their homes. First, the boys try to approach the people in charge peacefully, but they are not successful. The kids use eco sabotage tactics to save the owls because they feel it is the strongest statement that they can make. Although vandalizing property is against the law, in some circumstances, it can serve a greater purpose. Such as in this case the barefoot boy wants to save the owls homes from being destroyed. eco-sabotage, the destruction of property by vandals, is ethically justified in certain circumstances.
